2003 Wildland Fire Information  
Over 310,000 acres have burned and 42 structures (including over nine homes) have been destroyed in wildland fires this summer in Idaho. Prepare for fires by being Firewise.

• Sept 11: City of Bonners Ferry has declared an Emergency. The city is requesting assistance from the Idaho Dept. of Water Resources and Dept. of Environmental Quality to assess alternative water sources and evaluate the impact on the water system for water quality. Myrtle Creek drainage is the sole source  water supply for Bonners Ferry and the Kootenai Tribe.  The Kootenai River with two pumps is being used for the secondary water source for the community drinking water.
  Boundary County has made an Emergency Declaration, requesting assistance from the state to supplement local efforts involved in the protection of resources.
• Idaho Statesman - There have been 2 evacuations in Salmon near the Withington FIre.  The Sunset Heights subdivision´s water filtration system and aboveground piping were damaged Aug. 16th. Lemhi County was hauling 10,000 gallons of water a day.

• Hill City Blues 2  (Private Land, 20 miles E of Fairfield ) 1655 acres; 100% containment on Oct 23
• Bee  (Upper Snake River, BLM, 15 miles NW of Soda Springs ) 1150 acres; 100% containment on Oct 23
• Bell Point  (Nez Perce National Forest, 40 miles E of Lowell) 309 acres; 0% containment
• Berg 3, (Nez Perce National Forest, 4 miles E of Riggins)  2102 acres; 100% containment on October 12.
• HWY 25 MM17  (Upper Snake River District, Bureau of Land Management) 3 miles NW of Eden, ID. 600 acres. Structure protection was in place for one residence.
• China Hat (Eastern Idaho State, Private and County) 330 acres contained on 9/29
• East Fork  (Upper Snake River District, Bureau of Land Management.) 12 miles NW of Dubois,  366 acres contained on 9/29.
• Elk (Southern Idaho Dispatch, Private land) 300 acres contained on 9/27
• Gannett, (Southern Idaho Dispatch, Private) 1 mile E of Gannett, ID. 750 acres contained on 9/22
• Hanson (Upper Snake River District, BLM) 519 acres -100% containment.  Cost of fire fight $?

• Sid  (Upper Snake River District, Bureau of Land Management. 17 miles E of Dietrich) 2680 acres
• Clear/Nez Complex (Clearwater National Forest) 11,425 acres.  The incident is being managed to accomplish resource objectives. The complex is comprised of 20 fires about 6 miles SE of Powell Junction. (62 Creek, Big Sand, Butte, McConnell N, Divide, Freezeout, Greenside, Ranger Lake, Rock Garden, Wag Meadows 2, Tobaggan,  West Moose, Brushy Spoon, Fry Pan, Wylies, Saddle Fork, Elk Ridge, Battle Creek, and Shasta fires) Cost of fire fight $350,000
  • Big Sand (Clearwater National Forest - 20 miles SE of Powell)  100 acres at 0% containment.Saddle Fork  (Nez Perce National Forest - 30 miles NE of Elk City) 200 acres at 0% containment. Wildland Fire Use fire is being managed for resource benefits.
  • Brushy Spoon (Nez Perce National Forest - 24 miles W of Darby, MT): Wildland Fire Use fire is being managed for resource benefits. 311 acres at 0% containment.
  • West Moose (Nez Perce National Forest - 38 miles W of Hamilton, MT) 158 acres 
  • Shasta  (Nez Perce National Forest - 50 miles NE of Grangeville): 325 acres This fire was allowed to burn and managed. 
  • Toboggan (Idaho Panhandle National Forest; 12 miles NE of Wallace) 350 acres
• Beaver Lake Complex (Clearwater National Forest)  26,307 acres  This incident is comprised of the Pleasant, Rhodes, Beaver Lake, Siah Lake, Moose Lake, Lily Lakes, Bears Oil, Cayuse, Eagle Creek, Eagle Creek East, Fish, Queen Creek, North Howard and Hopeful 2 fires. Structure protection was in place for 61 residences and 51 commercial properties. Cost of fire fight $17,400,000
  • Eagle Creek E (Clearwater National Forest - 10 miles SW of Powell) 100 acres 
  • Bears Oil (Clearwater National Forest - 10 miles NW of Powell): 500 acres 
• Sapp (formerly called - Split Rock) (Nez Perce National Forest originally in the Payette Forest-  45 miles E of Riggins) 11,515 acres. Structure protection was in place for 22 residences and 1 commercial property. Includes the Sapp and Richardson fires Cost of fire fight $2,000,000
  • Richardson (Payette National Forest; 10 miles E of Dixie): ~1,451 acres
• Slims Complex (Nez Perce National Forest - 35 miles east of Grangeville):  14,473 acres. this fire is composed of the Slims, Stillman and Poet Branch fires. Cost of fire fight $2,100,000
• Cayuse Lake Complex (Clearwater National Forest - 10 miles NW of Powell) 18,761 acres. This complex contains 44 fires, including: Queen Creek, Big Creek, Bronc, Cantle, Cayuse Lake, Curly, Eagle Creek, Eagle Creek East, Jerry, Fish, Oil,  Cove,  Granite, Mae, Pommel, Stirrup, and Windy Creek fires. Cost of fire fight $258,000
  • Bronc (Nez Perce National Forest - 19 miles W of Hamilton, MT) ~264 acres
  • Cove  (Nez Perce National Forest - 20 miles SW of Hamilton, MT) ~182 acres
  • Fish (Clearwater National Forest- 25 miles SW of Powell): ~100 acres.
  • Granite (Nez Perce National Forest - 22 miles SW of Hamilton, MT) ~100 acres
  • Rhodes (Clearwater National Forest - 5 miles NW of Powell) 300 acres 
  • Big Creek  (Northern Rockies Information -22 miles southwest of Hamilton, Montana.)   ~106 acres.
• North Fork Lick (Payette National Forest; 18 miles NE of McCall): 8,614 acres at 30% containment. Structure protection is in place for 123 residences and 2 commercial properties.  Cost of fire fight $6,000,000
• Middle Fork Complex (Salmon-Challis National Forest, 25 miles NW of Challis) 27,596 acres. The complex is comprised of the Cougar, Marble, Prospect, Mahoney, Teapot, Falconberry and Trapper fires. Cost of fire fight $1,100,000
  • Falconberry (Salmon-Challis National Forest 10 miles E of Stanley): 24,350 acres at 0% contained. Structure protection is in place for 1 residence  6 out-buildings lost  
• Winslow Idaho (Caribou-Targhee National Forest, 9 miles N of Kilgore) 4,400 acres 100% containment on Sept 2. Cost of fire fight: $638,000
• Fiddle (Nez Perce National Forest, 6 miles NE of Riggins) 708 acres. 100% containment on Sept 1. Structure protection was in place for 2 residences. Cost of fire fight $560,000
• Lost Packer Complex (Salmon-Challis National Forest, 36 miles NW of Salmon) 715 acres. Wildland Fire Use fire is being managed for resource benefits. Consists of the Waugh, Upper West Horse, Little Horse, and Horse fires. 
• Frank Church (Payette National Forest) 3,389 acres.  Wildland Fire Use fire is being managed for resource benefits Cost of fire fight $350,000
• Gold Chest  (Idaho Panhandle National Forest, 2 miles SE of Murray, ID.) 110 Acres at 100% containment on Aug 28. Cost of fire fight $265,000
• Canyon Creek  (Boise National Forest / Boise Interagency Fire Office, 20 miles NE of Lowman.)  5,545 acres at 100% containment on Aug 22.
• South Fork (Boise National Forest / Boise Interagency Fire Office, 25 miles NE of Cascade.): 6,950 acres at 100% containment on Aug 23 Structure protection was in place for 2 commercial properties.
• Withington (Salmon-Challis National Forest 13 miles NW of Mackay) 10,500 acres at 100% containment on Aug 23. Structure protection was in place for 4 residences. Idaho Statesman - There have been 2 evacuations.  The Sunset Heights subdivision´s water filtration system and aboveground piping were damaged Saturday. Lemhi County is hauling 10,000 gallons of water a day to the subdivision.
• Milepost 59 (Idaho State Forestry - Northern Rockies Information, 3 miles NW of Kamiah):8,142 acres at 100% containment on Aug 23.  Structure protection is in place for 6 residences. 1 Structure was lost
• Tom Beall (3 miles NE of Lapwai) 2,500 acres of farmland and canyon land 1 abandoned house and some out buildings were lost.
• Pinchot (Nez Perce National Forest - 21 miles NE of Elk City) 1,317 acres
• Upper Twin (Clearwater National Forest, 5 miles NW of Kamiah): 750 acres 
• Spring Doe  (Clearwater National Forest - 10 miles NW of Powell)  300 acres 
• South Squaw (Clearwater National Forest - 34 miles SW of Lolo, MT): 300 acres at 0% containment.
• Wendover (Clearwater National Forest - 5 miles NW of Powell) 1300 acres. 
• Mink 2 (Clearwater National Forest - 10 miles W of Powell) 200 acres.
• Menan (BLM Upper Snake River District, 10 miles W of Rexburg): 10,000 acres at 100% containment on Aug 17.  
• Hall (Payette National Forest, 7 miles N of Council.): 1,613 acres at 100% containment on Aug 14. 1 home and 1 out-building lost  Cost of fire fight $2,420,000
• Marble (Payette National Forest, 3 miles E of Big Creek.) 500 acres  containment on Aug 13
• Timmerman (Eastern Idaho BLM, 25 miles north of Shoshone.): 4,095 acres at 100% containment on Aug 12.
• Foothills (Eastern Idaho BLM, 2 miles S of Picabo): 1,500 acres at 100 % containment on Aug 11.
• Deep (Eastern Idaho BLM, 17 miles NW of Dubois)  2 structures lost 37,682 acres at 100% containment on Aug 10.
• Hot Creek (Boise National Forest / Boise Interagency Fire Office), 8 miles W of Atlanta Evacuations of cabins and campsites in effect.  1 home lost. 26,560 acres - 100% containment.
• Black Frog Complex - (Blackwall) (Salmon-Challis National Forest and Bitterroot NF in Montana, 32 miles N of Salmon): 5,400 acres in Idaho (7,275 acres total - 100% containment on Aug 9.
• Festival (Eastern Idaho BLM, 10 miles NE of Blackfoot) 2,632 acres at 100% containment on Aug 8.
• Crystal Creek (Salmon-Challis National Forest, 18 miles NW of Stanley): 1,319 acres -  100% containment on Aug 4
• Rainbow (Payette National Forest) 107 acres  This fire was allowed to burn and monitored. Contained on Aug 3
• Hunt Creek Fire (Priest Lake Area, Idaho Department of Lands / CDC): 590 acres at 100% contained on Aug 3.
• Oxkiller (Caribou-Targee National Forest - 3 miles E of Franklin) 882 acres 100% contained.
• Cramer (Salmon-Challis National Forest - 17 miles west of Shoup): 2 firefighters killed. 5,614 acres -  100% contained
• Flannigan (Idaho Department of Lands Ponderosa Area) 190 acres - 100% contained  5 homes and 11 other structures destroyed
• Wilkins (Lower Snake River BLM - 1 mile west of Murphy Hot Springs) 4,500 acres, 100% contained.
• Andy (Payette National Forest 30 miles NW of Weiser) 800 acres 100% contained
• Tobias (Salmon-Challis National Forest) 30 miles S of Salmon): 14 structures destroyed. 13,845 acres - 100% contained on July 27.
• Harkness - (Eastern Idaho BLM, 1 mile NE of McCammon, Bannock County) -10 structures - 2 homes and several barns lost: 4,500 acres - 100% contained on July 26.
• INEEL (Eastern Idaho BLM, 22 miles W of Idaho Falls) 100% contained on July 20
• Moonshine (Eastern Idaho BLM)      2,000 acres 100% contained on July 11.
• Holland Gulch (Lower Snake River BLM, ) 393 acres 100% contained on July 7
• Hi Crow (Lower Snake River BLM, 3 miles E of Boise) 864 acres 100% contained on July 7
• Rocky Knoll  (Eastern Idaho BLM, 12 miles south of Grace) 300 acres 100% contained on July 5
