School Preparedness
Our goal is to support schools in their responsibility to educate and train students and staff in effective disaster preparedness behaviors.
Is Your School Ready?
In any school crisis, school administrators are the first responders. At what point should a crisis be turned over to other agencies? What responsibilities do administrators assume once that happens? Attendees will learn strategies for establishing a chain of command, working with other first responders (fire, police) and finding order in chaos.
Create a plan for your school using the Basic School Plan Template (PDF).
Earthquake Supplemental Classroom Activities
BHS has teamed up with the Idaho Geological Survey and the State Department of Education to develop and produce classroom
activities to supplement the 2009 publication of Putting Down Roots in Earthquake Country: Your Handbook for Earthquakes in Idaho.
The Supplement: Classroom Activities publication is designed to meet Idaho State Standards for 8th and 9th grade Earth Science and
Mathematics, but can be used outside the classroom to educate and prepare individuals, families, and communities for earthquakes.
