Public Alerts
Currently, The Idaho Bureau of Homeland Security uses the Emergency Alert System (EAS) to deliver emergency messages to the public during an emergency.
This system uses radio and television broadcasts to deliver information on what is occurring or expected to occur, and gives guidance on actions that should be
taken. The National Weather Service also uses the EAS system for notification of weather events that may endanger the public. A new system, called the
ISAWS (Idaho State Alert and Warning System) system, is in development. ISAWS will greatly enhance the ability of both the Bureau of Homeland Security and the
National Weather Service to deliver critical information before, during, and after an emergency. A voluntary enrollment website for the ISAWS system will soon be
available, and information on how and where to enroll will be provided following the establishment of the enrollment site.
